Lawn Landscape Design

Lawn landscape design is more than simple yard care.  It is more about craftsmanship than mowing.  The lawn is worked into a unifying fabric of shapes and design that connect the many elements of residential landscape design.  Both organic and inorganic forms must be included in this fabric.  The point of lawn landscape design is not to magnify the greenery at the expense of human architecture, but rather to blend green elements with fantastic figures of stone, tile, wood, brick, and gravel.  Then, and only then, can we say that the lawn has truly been designed and sculpted into that which we would call a landscape.

Gardens rank among the most important elements of lawn landscape design.  Gardens do several things for a yard.  They make it look larger, and they make it appear more vibrant than it originally appeared.  For one thing, they elevate the visual aspect of otherwise flat terrain.  No matter how large or small the plants in a garden are, they will always appear taller than surrounding grasses and therefore add a new dimension of geometric form, color, and essence to the yard.

Any number of garden designs can be created in a Houston landscape.  The flat terrain of the Texas Gulf Coast is an ideal for creating any type of design we choose.  Styles are selected that compliment home architecture and outdoor activity theme.  Colors are vital to the differentiating function of garden design that distinguishes a special area of mood and tone from the remainder of the outdoor environment.

Trees are also very major components of lawn landscape design.  Trees are magnificent, and they speak from a reality that is uniquely their own.  They are found throughout the world and have become iconic pillars in human art, myth, and symbology.  It is absolutely essential that the Houston professional landscaper pay close attention to trees of any species or size.  Large trees provide shade and complimentary structure to outdoor seating areas, shade gardens, patios, courtyards, and arbors.  Small and mid-sized trees are actually used in certain types of gardens.  Entry gardens and Japanese gardens both require a number of smaller tree species to either add a vertical, column-like aspect to their aesthetic, or to build organic walls that separate special space from open space.

There are also many inorganic elements that are necessary to the successful lawn landscape design.  It is essential that we focus on these forms for two reasons.  One reason is our obvious human need for structures that support comfortable c, and that function as center points for outdoor events.  Secondly, the careful and conscious construction of hardscape designs in a setting of organic vitality lends form to our intangible longing to see human civilization somehow return to a harmony with Nature.

To do so we must think about what people like to do when they gather outside and map out interest points that will become environments in which these activities can be hosted with appropriate accommodation and amenity.  Natural transit areas are further developed into walkways made of stepping stone, polished concrete, or running bond brick.  Open areas between trees provide us with locations for courtyards, arbors, outdoor kitchens, outdoor fireplaces, and ponds.  Architectural walls and fountains are built in strategic places to create worlds within worlds and special realms of light, water, sound, and motion.

Through all of this we labor in awareness to create an expression of lifestyle and heart-felt beliefs that is better expressed through form rather than words.  It is so much better this way, when we create a lawn landscape design for someone that embodies who they are in spirit and allows them to simply invite the people they love to come over to experience who they are.

A provides a more pleasant and truthful means for people to live who they are rather than to vainly attempt to explain who they are with fear-based inner dialogue, and it creates a true society that is free from the inner tyranny of social conditioning in an outdoor setting of tranquility that unifies the better parts of Nature and architecture for the benefit of all concerned.
